Turn it Down and Save!

If your lawn could talk, it might tell you that it is drinking too much in the fall. That is because many homeowners still water their lawns like it is July. Although it may still be hot on some days, it is only hot for a couple hours not all day like in July. You need half of the water that you did in July. Follow these tips to increase efficiency and save money:

  • Only use 1 or 2 of your assigned watering days.

  • Water trees and shrubs once a month during the fall and winter. A recent change in the watering restrictions allows you to lay a hose end sprinkler to water trees and shrubs, anytime when needed.

  • Core aerate your lawn in September or October. Lawn aeration allows air, water and nutrients access to the root system for a better looking and more efficient lawn.

  • People stop watering the lawn in mid-October, although you should let the weather guide your outdoor water use.
