Announcements: Lawn Watering Begins Early in Greeley

Lawn Watering Begins Early in Greeley

Because it has been such a dry winter and warm in March, Greeley residents will be able to water their lawns early. Beginning on Friday, March 23, the Water and Sewer Director is authorizing a citywide variance from watering restrictions (day of the week and time of day) until April 15 when the normal 3-day per week schedule will begin.

Greeley’s mandatory watering restrictions have been in effect since 1907. In addition to being a water conservation measure, water restrictions flatten peak summer demand. Expensive system capacity upgrades can be delayed by spreading out water demand through watering restrictions. After April 15, all Greeley water customers must follow the schedule below.

Using a hose-end sprinkler is recommended for this time of year, instead of starting up automatic sprinkling systems. If you choose to turn on your automatic irrigation system, please remember that there may still be a chance of freezing weather until mid-May. At this time of year, only one day per week watering is suggested.

Complete watering restrictions are in Greeley’s April water bills and are also available on the city’s website The website also includes information on irrigation audits, water restriction variances for new lawns and water conservation tips.
