Aven's Village at Island Grove Inclusive Playground
Playground Opening Announced!
On Saturday, October 15, at 10 a.m., the City of Greeley Culture, Parks and Recreation Department will host a public opening and dedication for Aven’s Village at Island Grove Regional Park, located at 501 N. 14th Ave.
Aven’s Village is an all-inclusive playground geared toward people of all ages and abilities. It includes a mix of sensory, social and physical activities and allows for visitors with various levels of ability to experience similar equipment side-by-side. The all-inclusive concept takes play one step further than an accessible playground by incorporating many types of play such as physical, sensory and social activities that appeal to a broad range of users.
In 2013, the Chambers family and various organizations, businesses and residents partnered with the City of Greeley to support, develop, and finance a universally accessible playground. Shane’s Inspiration, a non-profit company that supports projects for children with disabilities, helped conceptualize the playground. Aven Mondy, a local youth who uses a wheelchair, was chosen as the playground’s namesake.
In addition to the City of Greeley, the playground’s major sponsors include the ARC of Weld County, The Community Foundation, the Community Service Charitable Foundation, Inc., the Greeley Blues Jam, Security Service Federal Credit Union, and the Greeley Stampede.
