Free Events Help to Celebrate Historic Preservation Month in May
GREELEY, Colo. — May is Historic Preservation Month. The Greeley Historic Preservation Commission invites the public to celebrate historic preservation in Greeley.
During the regular City Council meeting on May 6, Mayor John Gates will proclaim May as Historic Preservation Month in Greeley to kick off the celebrations. Meetings take place at 6 p.m. in City Council Chambers at City Center South, 1001 11th Avenue. Residents can also watch the meeting online by visiting the city’s meeting portal at greeleyco.portal.civicclerk.com.
Join the commission and city staff at 5 p.m. on Monday, May 19, at the Boys and Girls Club of Weld County Teen Center in the historic Warnoco Building at 1407 2nd Street. The event will celebrate the winners of the Historic Preservation Month Award. Guests will also hear from Renee Norcross, daughter of the former Warnoco building owner, and enjoy light refreshments.
The city is gathering stories about the Warnoco property at www.speakupgreeley.com. The public is encouraged to share their stories on the Speak Up page and at the May 19 event.
Historian Meg Dunn will present about the Ku Klux Klan in Colorado in the 1920s on Thursday, May 22, at noon at the Greeley History Museum, 714 8th Street.
Greeley Historic Preservation videos — like Windows of Time and neighborhood walking tours — will play on GTV8 throughout the month. The videos are also available on the city’s YouTube channel year-round.
These events are free and open to the public — no reservations are required.
