What’s Great About Greeley: November 2020

Greeley’s Downtown Art Alley  Place & People’s Choice Awards
Greeley Art Alley 2021Congratulations to the Downtown Development Authority and the City of Greeley Art Commission for winning Downtown Colorado Inc's 2020 Governor's Award for Excellence.  Greeley won in the “Place” and “People’s Choice” categories for the Art Alley. It’s the Place to Be.

Frontier Academy Boys Cross County 3A State Champs Congratulations to the Frontier Academy boys cross country team for winning their second consecutive 3A State Championship. In addition, senior Sylas Chambers and sophomore Abuzaid Fanning earned Class 3A boys first-team selections, and Wolverine coach Brett Shanklin was named the 3A boy's Coach of the Year. 

Greeley West Tennis Player and Coach of the Year Honors
Greeley West tennis player, Nico Jamison, has been named Northern Colorado Conference Player of the Year. He also received first-team selection on the Class 4A All-Northern Conference team. Nico was named to the first-team all-state team by CHSAANow.com.  Also earning all-conference first-team honors for the Spartans were Ben Williams, Ashtyn DeNovellis, Alex Dhupar, Blaine Cullen, Brendan McCune, and Hunter Clark. And not to be outdone, West tennis coach Ryan Pace was named the conference’s Coach of the Year. Go Spartans!

BizWest 40 Under Forty Honors

Congratulations to Bianca Fisher, Executive Director of Greeley's DDA, and Matt Estrin of 477 Distilling for being selected by BizWest as "40 under Forty" superstars! The Northern Colorado 40 under Forty recognizes emerging business leaders under 40 years of age who are making a mark on their communities through professional success and volunteer activities.

WeldWerks 2020 National Philanthropy Day
WeldWerks Brewing is one of 33 honorees this year for National Philanthropy Day in Colorado. This award, given out annually by the Association of Fundraising Professionals Colorado Chapter, seeks to recognize the activities of donors, volunteers, foundations, leaders, corporations, and others engaged in philanthropic work. National Philanthropy Day® is a grassroots movement that began in 1986 with President Ronald Reagan.

Mayor’s Water Challenge Greeley Places 5th

Congratulations to the residents of Greeley for placing 5th in the Wyland National Mayor’s Challenge of Water Conservation for communities of 100,000-299,999. Greeley has placed in the top 10 since the beginning of the challenge in 2012.  Thanks to everyone for pledging to conserve water, energy and natural resources even during the COVID crisis. Nationally, we pledged to save over 1 billion gallons of water.

Greeley Wastewater Treatment & Reclamation Peak Performance Silver Award

The Greeley Wastewater Treatment and Reclamation Facility received a National Association of Clean Water Agencies Peak Performance Silver Award. The association awards this honor to agencies that achieved excellence in operational performance and permit compliance. Greeley's Wastewater Treatment and Reclamation Facility treats and discharges more than 7 million gallons of water daily. 

BizWest Confluence Colorado Water Summit

Greeley was the presenting sponsor at the BizWest Confluence Colorado Water Summit. The conference examined the economic issues surrounding the scarcity of water affecting Northern Colorado, rising water prices, and the many facets of water availability, cost, conservation, development and supply. Water & Sewer Director Sean Chambers was a featured speaker.

University of Northern Colorado Outstanding Z Department Award
The University of Northern Colorado’s School of Mathematical Science has been awarded the Outstanding Z Department award.  This is part of Colorado Governor Jared Polis’ Zero Textbook Cost Challenge encourages Colorado institutions of higher education to increase access, equity and affordability for college students by expanding the use of open educational resources.

Greeley Central High School National Unified Champion School
Greeley Central and it's approximately 20 unified sports athletes have presented a banner acknowledging the school as a National Unified Champion School by Special Olympics. Unified Sports combines an approximately equal an number of students with and without intellectual disabilities on the same team.
