2019 Historic Preservation Month Event

The City of Greeley Historic Preservation Office and Historic Greeley, Inc. invite the public to attend a free Historic Preservation Month program at the Greeley Masonic Temple, 829 10th Avenue, the “Architecture of William N. Bowman.” This event will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 9 with light refreshments followed by awards presentations at 7 and a presentation about William Bowman’s architecture at 7:30. The event is free, open to the public and no reservations are required.

The Historic Preservation Commission will recognize Cardiac Investments LLC for rehabilitation of the Greeley Masonic Temple Building, and will honor Linde Thompson for her work obtaining historic preservation tax credits and a grant to help with the costs of the rehabiltation. The Commission will also recognize Allnutt Funeral Services for their preservation and stewardship of the Allnutt Funeral Services Building at 702 13th Street. Finally, the Commission will recognize the owners and former managers of the Rainbow Motel, Riley and Duston Baker and Greeley Rainbow LLC for rehabilitation of the Rainbow Motel at 105 8th Avenue.

Following the presentation of preservation awards, Greeley Historic Preservation Commissioner Scott McLean will give a presentation about the life and works of Colorado architect William Bowman, who designed the Masonic Temple, along with the Weld County Courthouse, Gunter Hall and the President’s House on the University of Northern Colorado campus.

May is Historic Preservation Month, which celebrates the heritage and preservation of historical, architectural and archaeological resources significant in our local, state and national development.
