The Union Colony Civic Center, 701 10th Ave., graciously receives the Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra and University of Northern Colorado as they present the classical melodies based on the Academy Award-winning animated feature, “Beauty and the Beast.” Showtimes are Friday and Saturday, March 1 and 2, at 7:30 p.m.
This enchanting late 1700s French adaptation of Disney’s classic tale is an international sensation and has been performed worldwide to over 35 million people in 13 countries. The original Broadway production ran for over 13 years and was nominated for nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The musical features all the songs from the Academy Award-winning animated feature, written by Alan Menken and the late Howard Ashman, along with new songs written by Menken and Tim Rice.
The time-honored story tells of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed into his former self. But time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity.
