City Names Chief Information Officer (CIO) to Lead IT Department After National Search

Bret-Naber

The City of Greeley announced today the appointment of a seasoned strategic-minded leader experienced in change management and innovative practices to lead the city’s Information Technology department.

Bret Naber will join the city following his selection from a pool of over 60 candidates following a national search.

“Bret’s unique combination of knowledge, skills and abilities set him apart during the hiring process,” said Interim City Manager Raymond Lee. “He not only has the technical, administrative management and project management credentials sought for the position but also competencies as a skilled communicator and collaborator with demonstrated success in building teams and strategically deploying technology.”

Naber currently leads Information Management and Technology at the University of Northern Colorado. He manages a staff of 74 employees and a $13 million budget as UNC’s chief information officer and assistant vice president. During his 22 years at the university, he’s led successful implementation of high-profile projects that included Enterprise Resource Planning and major infrastructure upgrades. His experience includes serving on the President’s Leadership Council at UNC, teaching business classes as an adjunct faculty member, and chairing the Colorado Higher Education Computing Organization, a leadership collective of the state’s colleges and universities. Naber also chaired the city’s broadband task force that examined and recommended municipal service options.

From UNC, Naber earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Computer Information Systems and a master’s degree in Educational Technology. He also completed business courses from Villanova University to earn master certification in Six Sigma concepts for solving business problems.

As the city’s Chief Information Officer, Naber will serve on the executive team and provide leadership, strategic direction and supervision for the department.

“As a lifelong resident, I look forward to the opportunity to work directly for the City of Greeley,” Naber said. “The city has an exciting future and I am excited to be part of it.”

Naber’s first day with the city will be Nov. 15. He will fill the leadership position vacancy created by the Aug. 16 resignation of previous director Scott Magerfleisch.
