Extensive Tree Work Scheduled Along 11th Avenue

North and south bound lanes along 11th Avenue between 8th St. and 20th St. will periodically close on Friday, Nov. 22, Saturday, Nov. 23, Tuesday, Nov 26 and Wednesday, Nov 27.  The City of Greeley’s Forestry Program plans to inspect and work on trees along 11th Avenue during these days. Tree trimming and removals will be necessary as trees that line the street have aged and become hazardous to people and property.

“Over-mature trees have a greater potential for failure, especially during early or late snowstorms, high wind events and other unusual occurrences,” says Shiloh Hatcher, Forestry Manager.

Multiple licensed tree contractors are involved in this project near the Thanksgiving holiday in an effort to minimize traffic impacts.

“Depending on the condition and age of a tree, we might need to remove it to maintain public safety. Whenever we see trees reach the end of their lives, we encourage property owners to plant new trees to continue the ongoing benefits of trees as they provide shade, increase property values, improve aesthetic beauty and contribute to a sense of community,” says Hatcher.

For more information about this project, call the city’s forestry office at 970-339-2405. The office is open Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., or visit greeleygov.com/forestry.
