Get a Free Water-Wise Showerhead on May 1 and Save on Your Water Bill

Greeley’s Water Conservation Program will hold a showerhead exchange May 1 at the Winter Farmers’ Market to help Greeley Water customers conserve water. In exchange for a new model, customers must bring old showerheads as well as their City of Greeley Water & Sewer Department bill.

Faucet aerators will also be available. Northridge High School student Juan Ramirez will share information about his Caring for our Watershed project at the exchange. His project aims to replace older aerators with new ones to help save water and energy. The exchange also will have bathroom and kitchen aerators.

The showerhead exchange will offer several options to choose from, including a handheld model. In addition, customers can also choose a showerhead in white or chrome to match their current bathroom fixtures. By replacing an old showerhead with a new, WaterSense model, the average household not only saves nearly 2,700 gallons of water per year, but could also reduce its annual water and energy costs by over $70.

At present the entire city of Greeley (110,000 population) uses 25 acre-feet of water per year. If just 121 households installed a water-wise showerhead, Greeley could reduce its water usage by 1 acre foot of water per year, equal to a foot of standing water in an entire football field.

Most water-wise showerheads cost from $25-$100. But Greeley water customers can get theirs for free at the Showerhead Exchange:
