Now that the lighting replacement project at Glenmere Park is complete, City of Greeley staff have begun working on improvements elsewhere in the park.
On Monday, August 7, parks crews will close and start general maintenance and painting of Glenmere’s bathroom. If weather cooperates and barring any problems, the facility should re-open on Monday, August 21.
Glenmere Park, located at 1400 Glenmere Blvd., is also scheduled for playground replacement beginning next month. Construction activity will close the playground area for two months with project completion anticipated for late October.
Developed in the early 1900s out of the City Beautiful Movement, Glenmere Park placed fourth in a nationwide city beautification contest sponsored by Better Homes and Gardens in 1934. Various bird species roost on the island in the lake, attracting bird watchers from all over Colorado. Its trail and playground are favored among many Greeley residents.
While park improvements are being completed, the public is encouraged to continue recreating along the parks sidewalks, lake and gazebo, but are asked to stay out of work areas for safety reasons.
