Greeley City Clerk Announces Swear-in Ceremony for Council Members

On November 28, incumbents John Gates (Mayor), Thomas Butler (Ward I), Dale Hall (Ward IV), and newly elected Melissa McDonald will be sworn in and take their seats at the dais as the new City of Greeley City Council. A ceremony will begin shortly after 6 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Center South, 1001 11th Avenue. The public is invited to attend. The special meeting will be broadcast live on GTV8 (Comcast channel 8) and the city’s YouTube channel.

A reception with cake and light beverages will be held at 5:30 p.m. in City Center South’s lobby commemorating the new Council’s incoming members. A short Council Work Session will follow the special meeting, presenting information and seeking Council direction.

Gates was reelected as mayor for another two years, with his final term ending in 2025. Butler and Hall both ran unopposed for their respective wards. McDonald was elected Councilmember At-Large and will begin her journey with her colleagues upon completing the final election processes from Weld County. Some of these processes include tabulating cured ballots, canvassing procedures, and the official election certification.

In Memory

And, as we celebrate the outcomes of the 2023 coordinated municipal election for the City of Greeley, our hearts still grieve the passing of Councilmember Ed Clark. A brief tribute will be held in his honor during the special meeting.

Ballot Initiatives

Greeley voters were asked to vote on two ballot questions in 2023, 2I and 2J. The first question (2I), asking the voters to decide if sergeants should be part of a collective bargaining union, was not approved. In contrast, the second ballot question (2J), asking if the titles of ranked fire personnel should be changed, was approved by a large margin. Election results are considered unofficial until certification by Weld County.
