Bee-on-Zinnia-

Greeley Water Conservation’s next Landscape Lecture is Succession Planting to Support Pollinators, on June 17 at 6:30 p.m. by Ross Shrigley, the Executive Director of Plant Select.  Ross will lead you through what the Plant Select program is, why it was created, and how you can use it to plan your pollinator garden using natives as well as other climate-adapted plants. Most of all, you will get to see a variety of plants for every situation, and learn about Plant Selects resources like their pre-planned garden designs you can download.

Did you know that one in every three bites of food you put in your mouth is because of a pollinator? We all know the plight of the honey bee, but we also have native bees, butterflies, moths and flies that benefit from creating habitat. A pollinator garden is more than just a pretty place for people and wildlife; it creates a positive impact on the environment by providing critical habitat and food sources for these species. Attendees will learn how to make their yard a delightful place for bumblebees, hummingbirds, and butterflies all season long.

Swallowtail-butterfly-on-Red-Valerian-(Jupiter’s-Beard)Perennials have different bloom periods, with some blooming early in the spring and other blooming in mid- or late summer. Planting the perennials, so you have a succession of blooms, keeps provides a nectar source for the pollinators as well as keeping the garden looking fresh throughout the flowering seasons.

The series moved to an online-only format via a Zoom webinar through June. The webinar will broadcast live and attendees will be able to ask questions. Anyone that misses the lecture can view it on YouTube after the initial presentation. Register at, https://bit.ly/LLGreeley3.
