One-year Out Census Kickoff Event

Over 30 community leaders representing a broad range of governments, businesses and organizations from across Weld County will gather at the Weld County Courthouse 9th Avenue entry at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 30th to kickoff the campaign to encourage participation in the 2020 Census. Undertaken since 1790, the decennial Census is a constitutionally required count of all persons living in the United States.

An accurate count of residents has wide-ranging benefits for communities.  Population growth in Colorado may result in an additional Congressional representative. The demographics gleaned from the Census is a critical tool for managing growth and development of public services and infrastructure, but is also an essential tool used by business to gauge markets and development.  Finally, federal funding to local communities are distributed based upon population and need, both accounted for in the Census count.

Greeley Mayor John Gates will officiate the Tuesday event, which kicks off the one-year countdown to the 2020 Census. To learn more about the Census and the campaign, contact Chris Garcia at chris.garcia@greeleygov.com or by calling 970-336-4288.
