Greeley Recreation hosted the Rockies Skills Challenge last month at the Youth Sports Complex on 65th Avenue in Greeley. Area youth competed in three different baseball challenges demonstrating their abilities in hitting, base running and throwing. The Rockies Skills Challenge allows both boys and girls ages 6 to 13 the opportunity to showcase their talents in these three skill areas with scores based on distance, speed and accuracy. The individuals that placed in their age group for each event will compete at Sectionals this Sunday, July 22 at Chimney Park in Windsor beginning at 1 p.m.
The following seven participants earned first place honors in their respective age groups: Age 6/7, Cruz Maynes of Greeley; Age 8/9, Davontay Marquez of Eaton and Isabella Boschock of Evans; Age 10/11, Izaak Haro of Greeley and Kiauna Smith of Eaton; Age 12/13 Caylin Grimes of Greeley and Tea Duplex of Greeley. These athletes will be attending Sectionals after taking First Place at the Rockies Skills Challenge in Greeley.
The finalists from Sectionals will advance to the State Championship. All State qualifiers will be invited to attend a Colorado Rockies game at Coors Field. Congratulations to all those that participated in the event and placed first in their age groups!
