Rankings and Recognitions

We like to recognize all the things that make Greeley a thriving community: student athletic and academic achievements; positive partnerships between businesses and schools; national rankings; and local, state and national awards earned by our non-profit, civic, business and government workers.

These recognitions aren't a pat on the back from locals to locals; rather, they're awards and kudos given from outside the community to those in Greeley who deserve it.

Greeley #4 In the Nation Highest Rates of Regular Exercise
The Greeley Metropolitan statistical area, which is all of Weld County, has been ranked 4th in the nation by Gallup and Sharecare for the Highest Rates of Regular Exercise, with 65.3% of adults saying they exercised regularly. The poll included adults in 189 metro areas and was based on interviews with more than 350,000 adults in all 50 states.

Greeley Featured Top 8 Sports Venues
Greeley was featured as one of 8 destinations for sports venues by Sports Destination Management.  Other featured destinations include locations in Montana, Wyoming, Nevada, New Mexico and Idaho. Colorado Springs was the only other Colorado city featured.

Greeley-Evans Transit Video 3CMA Marketing Excellence Award
The City of Greeley was awarded a national 3CMA Savvy Award of Excellence for the “GET on the Bus” video and social media campaign in the Best Promotional Video category for cities of 81,000 to 170,000 population. City staff in the Communication & Engagement Office and the Transit Division, partnering with Greeley-Evans School District 6, created a short video for social media to promote the Ride Free with Student ID program. With its use of local school mascots and a Greeley rap artist, the music video resulted in increased awareness of the Free Ride program, as well as a significant increase in student ridership and participation in school activities.



UNC Audiology & Speech-Language Museum Display
UNC Audiology & Speech-Language Sciences professors Don Finan and Deanna Meinke collaborated on a project for the Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix, Arizona.  The museum boasts a collection of 6,500 instruments including ones owned by legendary artists like Elvis Presley and John Lennon.  The stand-alone exhibit raises awareness and promotes prevention of noise-induced hearing loss. The mannequins have also been produced for the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, NASA, and the National Health System in London, England.

University of Northern Colorado Wrestlers Ranked Nationally
A pair of Northern Colorado student-athletes have earned preseason national rankings by Wrestling Insider News magazine. Dylan Gabel ranked 15th in the country in his 184-lb weight class and Keilan Torres ranked 19th.

Air Force Veteran Featured National LEADER Magazine
Loyal Kelsey, who served as a colonel in the US Air Force, was recently featured in the 2017 edition of LEADER magazine. Kelsey lives at Life Care Center of Greeley, a nursing and rehabilitation center which publishes a handful of residents' life stories each year in its parent company magazine.

Caring for Our Watersheds: Greeley Central Takes First
Caring for Our Watersheds is an environmental education competition that encourages and rewards students for creative solutions related to water quality. Eight Greeley students were among the 2017 Colorado finalists, including first-prize winner Mazlyn Freier from Greeley Central High, who earned $1,000 for her biodegradable lunch waste project.

Greeley Police K-9 Units Take Top Awards 
Congratulations to the Greeley Police Department’s two K-9 units who took first place in multiple categories at a competition for police dogs.  Competing against 20 other teams from across Colorado, Rocko netted a first place in the narcotics detection and location category, while Cairo placed first in agility and apprehension.  Cairo was also named the third fastest dog at the competition. 

State of Colorado: State Plumbing Board Reappointment
Master plumber and City of Greeley Building Inspection Division Plans Examiner Matt Wagy has been reappointed to the State Plumbing Board by Governor John Hickenlooper.  The Board grants licenses to plumbers and amends and enforces rules and regulations related to the profession.  Congratulations to Matt.
