We like to recognize all the things that make Greeley a thriving community: student athletic and academic achievements; positive partnerships between businesses and schools; national rankings; and local, state and national awards earned by our non-profit, civic, business and government workers.

These recognitions aren't a pat on the back from locals to locals; rather, they're awards and kudos given from outside the community to those in Greeley who deserve it.

Greeley MSA Ranks #1 - Most Discretionary Income
Not only did the Greeley/Weld County Metropolitan Statistical Area rank first for discretionary income among all of the statistical areas in Colorado, it was fourth overall in the mountain states region, which includes Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming, Idaho and Montana. The Trove Discretionary Income Study is the first of its kind to incorporate data that reflects regional differences in salaries, cost of living and taxes to show the take home pay of U.S. workers across 778 occupations. The data comes from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, The Tax Foundation and The Council For Community and Economic Research.

Greeley’s Water and Sewer Department and its staff are featured in the December 2017 issue of the trade publication, Municipal Water and Sewer Magazine. Water and Sewer Direct Burt Knight is pictured on the cover.

The Greeley Stampede has made a record-breaking donation to the Stampede Foundation to assist local students with their education. The $94,779 will be used for scholarships for students in Northern Colorado.

WeldWerks Brewing Company: 10-Best Breweries of 2017
WeldWerks has been named one of the 10-Best Breweries of 2017 by Paste Magazine.  This is WeldWerks second ranking by Paste Magazine, a publication that reviews music, movies, books, breweries and more. In their write up about the brewery they noted, “WeldWerks is a profoundly American craft brewery, specializing in the styles that tend to get beer geeks most excited.”

High Plains Library District: Certificate of Achievement
The High Plains Library District has earned the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers association of the US and Canada.  This is the highest form of recognition possible in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting.

University of Northern Colorado: Global Awareness Roeper Award
The National Association for Gifted Children ranked the University of Northern Colorado’s Summer Enrichment Program as one of two Global Awareness Annemarie Roeper Award winners. The award recognizes individuals and groups that advocate for gifted children in ways that align with Roeper, who was a pioneer in the field.  UNC’s Summer Enrichment Program is a two-week educational program for students in grades 5 through 10.

Brett Yackey: MaxPreps Weekly Honor Roll
Congratulations to Greeley Central senior Brett Yackey for being named to MaxPreps Weekly Honor Roll, presented by the United States Marine Corps.  Brett was recognized for his grit on the football field this past fall, and on the racetrack as one of the top young drivers in the state in the “super late models” division.

Aims Community College: Blue Ocean Foundation Grant
Aims Community College received a $5,000 grant from the Blue Ocean Foundation on Colorado Gives Day. The Aims Foundation was chosen as a recipient because of its efforts to further Blue Ocean's economic development mission.

School District 6 – Jackson & Brentwood: Colorado Centers of Excellence
Jackson Elementary and Brentwood Middle School have received the Colorado Centers of Excellence Award from the Colorado Department of Education. The CDE recognizes public schools in Colorado that enroll at least 75 percent of students who are at risk, while demonstrating the highest rates of student growth as compared with other schools in the state. This is the first time since the awards began in 2009 that District 6 schools were recognized.

BattleoftheBeltsRodarte Community Center: Battle of the Belts Winners
Congratulations to Ulises Villareal, Eric Berumen and Angel Arredondo from the Hard Knocks boxing club at the Rodarte Community Center, who won their matches at the Battle of the Belts Boxing Smoker.  All three are former or current Greeley Central Wildcats. The event hosted boxers from clubs across the Front Range and from other states.

Greeley-Evans School District 6: Dos Rios - IB Designation
Dos Rios Elementary School in Greeley has been designated by the International Baccalaureate Organization as a Primary Years Program school. The addition of Dos Rios allows School District 6 to provide elementary through high school IB education. Dos Rios joins Brentwood Middle School and Greeley West High School in the IB program.
