Rankings and Recognitions

We like to recognize all the things that make Greeley a thriving community: student athletic and academic achievements; positive partnerships between businesses and schools; national rankings; and local, state and national awards earned by our non-profit, civic, business and government workers.

These recognitions aren't a pat on the back from locals to locals; rather, they're awards and kudos given from outside the community to those in Greeley who deserve it.

City of Greeley Butch Butler Field Staff Recognition
City of Greeley Parks
staff who maintain Butch Butler Field were honored by the Colorado High School Athletic Association for providing exceptional maintenance at this baseball field located in Centennial Park on 23rd Avenue.  Way to go Ted, Hod, Bert, Xavier and John!

Colorado Women of Influence Foundation Women of Vision
The Colorado Women of Influence Foundation has recognized two honorees from Greeley during its annual Women of Vision Gala.  Kay Broderius, the founder of Weld Women2Women, and Deirdre Pilch, the superintendent of Greeley-Evans School District 6, are two of the organization's 12 honorees. The Colorado Women of Influence Foundation, a professional organization for women, focuses on developing activities that support women as they grow in business.

Congratulations to Roche Constructors Inc. for being recognized as the Best Commercial Builder in the ColoradoBiz Best of Colorado Business Choice 2018 list.

University of Northern Colorado BSC Golfer of the Year
University of Northern Colorado junior golfer Joshua Matz has been named the Big Sky Conference Golfer of the Year.  This national ranking was from both Golfstat and Golfweek. He was also named to the All-Big Sky First Team.

UNC Men’s Golf Big Sky Conference Champions
The University of Northern Colorado men's golf team won its first Big Sky Conference championship with senior Andrew Romano also winning the individual title.  All five players finished in the top 18 spots.  Their stellar performance qualified them for the NCAA Tournament happening this month. 

Aims Community College: Colorado 2018 Top Workplaces Award
Aims Community College has been awarded a 2018 Top Workplaces honor by The Denver Post. The list is based solely on employee feedback. The anonymous survey measures several aspects of workplace culture, including alignment, execution, and connection, just to name a few.

Aims Community College Top-Ranked 4-Year College Alternative
Aims Community College has been named a Top-Ranked Four-Year College Alternative by Niche. Niche is an online platform that helps people discover schools and neighborhoods that are the right fit for them.

Aims Automotive Students: SkillsUSA Challenge Winners
Kudos to Aims Community College Automotive students for their success at the State Skills USA Challenge.  Michael Kunkel of Greeley won the post-secondary damage appraisal and will now join four other Aims students at the National competition in June. SkillsUSA is a national career and technical education organization designed to ensure America has a skilled workforce.

Aims Community College: Named Best Broadcasting College
Aims Community College has been named the #1 Best Broadcasting College in Colorado by Universities.com. Universities.com information and rankings of 8,000 schools are used by millions of people to make informed decisions about their educational choices.

KUNC Radio: Society of Professional Journalists
KUNC Radio in Greeley earned a Sigma Delta Chi excellence in journalism award from the Society of Professional Journalists. The station earned that award and reporter Bente Birkeland was named Journalist of the year for investigative reporting regarding allegations of sexual harassment at the Colorado state house.  Sigma Delta Chi awards are among the premiere awards in the field of journalism.

Greeley Police Department: K9 Unit Sets the Bar
A huge “bark” out to our Greeley Police Department K9 unit.  Freya, Rocko, Cairo and their handlers have completed their PSP-1 standard certifications, which is the highest level of certification worldwide.  An extra kudos to Officer Gallegos and Freya for completing the Utah Post K9 Academy.  For the last 4 months, they have put in over 340 hours of training. 

MaxPreps Male Athlete of the Year: Brett Yackey
Greeley Central Senior Brett Yackey has been named the MaxPreps Semper Fidelis High School Athlete of the Year. The award is presented jointly by MaxPreps.com and the United States Marines.  Only one male and one female are selected nationally each year.

Greeley West Colin Shaha: 5A Coach of the Year
Congratulations to Greeley West Coach Colin Shaha who has been named the Class 5A Coach of the Year by the Colorado High School Swim Coaches Association.

WeldWerks Brewing Co. World Beer Cup Awards
Congratulations to WeldWerks Brewing Company for taking Bronze at the World Beer Cup Awards for their Peach Climacteric brew.  The competition was tough this year. More than 2,500 breweries competed, including 807 from outside the United States.  WeldWerks’ popular Juicy Bits was also listed as one of Thrillist’s 33 Hottest IPAs in the U.S.
