We like to recognize all the things that make Greeley a thriving community: student athletic and academic achievements; positive partnerships between businesses and schools; national rankings; and local, state and national awards earned by our non-profit, civic, business and government workers.

These recognitions aren't a pat on the back from locals to locals; rather, they're awards and kudos given from outside the community to those in Greeley who deserve it.

Greeley Central’s Andrew Alirez: Wrestling Junior Pan American Champion
Congratulations to Greeley Central senior wrestler Andrew Alirez for earning a gold medal at the Junior Pan American Championships freestyle wrestling tournament held in Brazil.  Andrew outscored his opponents 30-0 and won the gold medal on his birthday.  He is a three-time Class 4A state champion for Greeley Central and has verbally committed to wrestle next school year for the University of Northern Colorado.

NCMC and MD Anderson Collaboration: Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center

North Colorado Medical Center has teamed up with Banner MD Anderson to create Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center at North Colorado Medical Center.  The collaboration allows greater access to the most advanced cancer care available for adult patients in Northern Colorado.  MD Anderson Cancer Center ranks as one of the world’s most respected centers focused on cancer patient care, research, education and prevention.  U.S. News & World Report has ranked MD Anderson the leading cancer hospital for 13 of the past 16 years.

University of Northern Colorado: Big Sky - Men’s Golf Player of the Week
University of Northern Colorado’s Coby Welch earned Big Sky Player of the Week honors.  This is Coby’s 4th time being recognized and the first this season.

Greeley Takes 4th Place: National Mayor’s Water Challenge
Congratulations to Greeley residents for pledging to save water during the annual Mayor’s Water Challenge .  Greeley placed 4th in the nationwide 30,000-99,999 category.

City of Greeley Forestry, Natural Areas: Colorado Open Space Alliance Blue Grama
Kudos to the City of Greeley Forestry, Natural Areas and Trails’ Managing Natural Areas Naturally program for receiving the Colorado Open Space Alliance Blue Gramma award. The selection committee felt the project exemplified the best in local management, innovation, and organizational leadership.

Hatcher and BloomerColumbine Award: CPRA Innovation Award
Kudos again to the City of Greeley’s Forestry, Natural Areas and Trail program for receiving the Columbine Award from the Colorado Parks and Recreation Association .  The award recognizes the innovative approach to natural areas management that the program has taken through its “Managing Natural Areas Naturally” efforts.

Cattle Production Veterinarian: Hall of Fame

Dr. Delbert "Del" Miles, a feedlot veterinarian from Greeley, Colorado, has been recognized for his dedication to the health and well-being of cattle at the 2018 American Association of Bovine Practitioners (AABP) Annual Conference .  Del was named the beef honoree to the Cattle Production Veterinarian Hall of Fame.

Counselor of the Year 2018: Bethany Balderrama
Bethany Balderrama, a counselor at Northridge High School, has been named the high school level Counselor of the Year for 2018 by the Colorado School Counselor Association .  Bethany has been a counselor at Northridge for nine years. The award honors professionals who serve as advocates for their students. Winners are selected based on their innovation, effective counseling programs, strong leadership and advocacy skills.

2019 Citizen of the West: Bob Tointon
Greeley resident Bob Tointon has been named the 2019 Citizen of the West , the top honor awarded by the National Western Stock Show. The prestigious annual award recognizes those who embody the spirit and determination of the Western pioneer and perpetuate the West’s agriculture heritage and ideals.

Greeley GDP: 6th Fastest-growing in the Nation
Some more good news…..Greeley’s 2017 GDP growth made it the No. 6 fastest-growing metropolitan statistical area in the country according to the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis . Greeley had its strongest growth in the finance, insurance and real estate sectors, as well as strong growth in natural resources and mining. Construction also had significant growth.
