We like to recognize all the things that make Greeley a thriving community: student athletic and academic achievements; positive partnerships between businesses and schools; national rankings; and local, state and national awards earned by our non-profit, civic, business and government workers.

These recognitions aren't a pat on the back from locals to locals; rather, they're awards and kudos given from outside the community to those in Greeley who deserve it.

Greeley has been ranked No. 1 on WalletHub’s list of 2018’s Fastest-Growing Cities in America, in the Jobs and the Economy category. WalletHub compared 515 cities of varying population sizes based on 15 key measures of both growth and decline over a period of seven years.  Greeley ranked 26th overall.

Greeley zip code 80631 has been ranked 44th by Realtor.com’s list of the nation’s 50 hottest zip codes . Realtor.com analyzes 32,000 ZIP codes based on the time it takes properties to sell and how frequently homes are viewed in each ZIP code on the website to determine the “hottest zip codes.”

UNC and District 6 Awarded Funding for Civics Program Partnership
The Campus Compact of the Mountain West recently awarded funding to the University of Northern Colorado and District 6 as part of the K2H Civic Futures AmeriCorps Program. The funding allows the Office of Engagement at UNC to have two AmeriCorps positions and up to 10 member positions supporting partnerships with the Juntos Project, District 6 Family Center and Greeley-Evans School District 6. 

McGuffey Longevity Award
District 6 school board member, Dr. Julia Richard, has been presented the McGuffey Award by the Colorado Association of School Boards.  The award honors Board of Education members for their commitment to public education and who bring passionate service to their school board work.

National Recreation & Park Association Gold Medal Finalist
Congratulations to the City of Greeley Culture Parks and Recreation Department for earning the National Recreation and Park Association Gold Medal Finalist Class III for populations 75,001-150,000 which recognizes excellence in the field of parks and recreation nationwide.

Knights Templar Eye Foundation Grant

University of Northern Colorado Assistant Professor of Biology Andrea James, has received a $65,000 Knights Templar Eye Foundation Career Starter Grant to fund her research on zebrafish eye development. She hopes her research can provide insights on human eye development and abnormalities with the goal of eventually eliminating blindness in young children.

UNC Swimming & Diving - 2018 Youth Olympics
No just a Bear, but an Olympian!  University of Northern Colorado swimmer Madelyn Moore will be competing at the Youth Olympic Games representing her home country of Bermuda and the Bears. The Youth Olympics are being held in Buenos Aires and go through October 18.  Good luck Maddy!

2018 Colorado Latino Hall of Fame: Polly B. Baca
Polly B. Baca, who grew up in Greeley, has been inducted into the 2018 Colorado Latino Hall of Fame in the Public Service category. She has served in the Colorado House of Representatives and the Senate and was the first Latina senator. She was the first Latina to co-chair a Democratic National Convention, which she did twice. Baca would go on to work for three presidential administrations with her final stint serving as a Director of the US Office of Consumer Affairs for President Clinton.
