In April construction will begin on the East 8th Street Improvement Project. This four-month construction project will expand and improve the significant East 8th Street corridor into and out of the east end of Greeley, from U.S. 85 to Balsam Avenue.
This work will add a detached sidewalk, continuous center turn lane, a deceleration lane at Ash Avenue, curbs, gutters, and improved drainage and utility systems. These upgrades will improve safety on East 8th Street and greatly help reduce congestion.
Construction, scheduled to start April 1, will only allow one-way traffic on East 8th Street. In this case, only drivers going west, toward Greeley, will be able to use East 8th Street between Ash Avenue and U.S. 85. Officials expect construction to continue until August. During that time, signs will direct drivers going east to use the detour on 16th Street. Construction crews will maintain local and business access during that time.
Officials understand the difficulty this partial closure will cause drivers. Creating a one-way closure will help protect the safety of drivers and workers and allow construction to progress at a better pace.
