Wastewater

The sewer system in Greeley is clean, tight, and well maintained. The entire system is cleaned every 18 to 20 months with some sections managed more frequently. The entire system is televised with a specialized camera system to document the need for repairs. Two to three miles of sewer line are rehabilitated each year with a cured-in-place pipe. The city's wastewater is managed by three divisions: Wastewater Collection, Wastewater Treatment, and Industrial Pretreatment.

Our wastewater collection system dates back to 1889. At the end of 2015, the system had a total of 359.32 miles of line and 10 sewage pumping stations. It serves approximately 61 square miles. In the past decade, the wastewater collection system has been experiencing rapid growth. Over the last 10 years, the system has grown by 16.59 miles.

Wastewater Treatment

We are dedicated environmental professionals providing quality, safe, cost effective wastewater treatment services for the citizens of Greeley. We treat wastewater to meet or exceed EPA and Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment requirements.

What does this mean?

Our goal is to maintain or improve the water quality of the Cache la Poudre River. The staff also treats organics (biodegradable material) that enters the plant and converts them to biosolids that are used to improve soil composition and increase crop production for local farmers.

We have been recognized for our efficiency, innovations, and record of meeting permit limits.

  • We received the 2011 Xcel Energy Custom Efficiency Achievement Award for reducing energy costs.
  • WTRF is a 2015 recipient of a National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA) Platinum Peak Performance Award. The award recognizes the treatment plant’s excellence and perfect environmental compliance record for the last five consecutive years.
