Water Conservation

Our Water Conservation program is one of the largest and most successful in Colorado. Between 1990 and 2007, universal metering and other conservation programs dropped water demand by more than 20 percent in Greeley. The Conservation Plan estimates an additional eight percent reduction in water use over the next 20 years.

The City of Greeley Water Conservation Program, in partnership with Resource Central, announces the annual Garden In A Box Xeriscape garden sale. This is the sixth year that Greeley has offered this program.

The Garden In A Box kit provides the locally grown plants and professionally developed, easy to follow planting and care instructions. Regardless of expertise, you can save water, reduce turf, solve landscape problems and beautify your landscape by purchasing a professionally designed, perennial garden. Each garden uses Xeric (low water) plants and includes a comprehensive plant and care guide. When Xeriscape gardens replace existing turf, the water savings can be significant.

Resource Central received positive feedback from customers last year, below are a few testimonials from satisfied customers:

“One of the biggest benefits of Garden In A Box for me was the pre-planned selection and planting guide. I didn't have to do any research or figure out what looks best. I just spaced the plants out and dug a hole. Done! For me, it was the path of least resistance.”

“I love the flowers. This is the third season. My last two season’s flowers are doing great and do not require any water, and they look beautiful and attract many bees, butterflies, and birds.”

“My first attempt at xeriscaping is going well so far. The seminar I attended in April gave me the info I needed to prep area and to conserve water.”

beautiful-landscape-(1)Gardens cost between $79 and $159, depending on the design and number of plants in the kit. When you sign up for the spring 2018 Garden In A Box pre-sale, you’ll be the first to know when the gardens go on sale and receive a special, limited-time offer of $5 off every garden. Residents of Greeley are eligible for an additional $25 discount on gardens more than $100, due to a partnership with Resource Central.

Gardens can be ordered online at resourcecentral.org/gardens or by calling 303-999-3820 ext. 222. This program is expected to sell out, so purchase your garden early. Gardens will be available for pickup on May 19 at Greeley’s Xeriscape Garden, 2503 Reservoir Road between the hours of noon and 3 p.m. For more information about Xeriscape or water conservation, please visit greeleygov.com/wc.
