City Center Construction Starts

DSC_0042-1200City Center construction is ready to roll!  On March 31 the City of Greeley partnered with Greeley’s Hensel Phelps Constructors to celebrate the construction launch for the first phase of City Center, Greeley’s new City Hall.

These are exciting times for Greeley with the plan for a consolidated City services campus in the downtown area coming together and now coming out of the ground.  If you haven’t yet seen fire station #1 under construction at 10th Avenue and 12th Street, take a drive by—it’s an impressive and beautiful building that’s part of the new multi-block campus.  The City Center ground-breaking event was just a half block away at 11th Avenue and 12th Street.

The planning for City Center and the fire station have been in the works for years and with those ceremonial silver plated shovels digging into the first pile of dirt, you could feel Greeley’s positive momentum continuing.  I am honored to say that City staff have put their heart and soul and their inexhaustible energy into making the numerous planning steps a success so that we can all be proud of what will follow.

And although the ceremony included the City Council and other local dignitaries, it was satisfying to see City staff take the opportunity to dig some soil, symbolizing everyone’s contribution to the project and the beginning of a new chapter for Greeley city government.
