This month we are celebrating the completion of the first
stage in Greeley’s new skatepark network at Centennial Skatepark on October 5.
A grand opening celebration will feature free food, skate demos, and prize
giveaways. I encourage everyone to attend the event and see the new skatepark.
Feedback gathered from residents and data from our parks,
trails, and open land master plan process identified a need for more and
improved skateparks in Greeley, so in 2018, we began the process of creating a
network of community-designed skateparks strategically located throughout the
city. The skateparks were created to keep all wheeled-sports enthusiasts in
mind. To help with designing and building these skateparks, we retained New
Line Skateparks, an internationally renowned full-service municipal skatepark
design and construction team.
The new skatepark sites also highlight public art and
incorporate custom installations by local sculptor, Joshua Goss.
The two other locations are Peak View Park and 3rd
St and 11th Avenue. Construction is underway at both sites and you
can visit playgreeley.com/skategreeley/
for more updates on when those will open.
What’s exciting is that these unique skateparks provide new
recreational opportunities for the youth and others who enjoy rollerblades,
scooters, BMX, skateboards, and more. It’s a wonderful addition to the Greeley
community and filled a need voiced by our community members.
