A common misconception about police is that when an officer knocks on your door, it’s bad news; but what if that officer comes bearing Christmas gifts for a child?
Santa Cops of Weld County was started by Greeley Police Officer Dave Volpe over 30 years ago to provide toys to children who would otherwise receive nothing at Christmas.
Nearly every member of the Greeley Police Department helps with Santa Cops in some way, serving around 5,000 children every year. It is exclusively a volunteer organization and brings together law enforcement professionals from all over Weld County. You can read more about the program here. https://greeleypd.com/santa-cops/.
This is just one of many endeavors our police take on, showing how they go above and beyond the call of duty, entrenching themselves in the fabric of our community to make positive impacts.
These positive community-building events happen despite the fact that these men and women in blue spend most of their days responding to some of the hardest moments, and I can’t thank them enough for the work they do to make our community a safer, better place. We cannot overlook the immeasurable sacrifices made by our police department, who are there during emergencies, not just on holidays, but every hour of every day throughout the year.
