Rankings and Recognitions

We like to recognize all the things that make Greeley a thriving community: student athletic and academic achievements; positive partnerships between businesses and schools; national rankings; and local, state and national awards earned by our non-profit, civic, business and government workers.

These recognitions aren't a pat on the back from locals to locals; rather, they're awards and kudos given from outside the community to those in Greeley who deserve it.

What's Great About Greeley: April 2021

East-Greeley-Natural-AreaGreat Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) Grant

The City of Greeley has been awarded a $300,000 grant by Great Outdoors Colorado. The grant will support the first phase of construction in an east Greeley natural area near Discovery Bay Waterpark. The project site is currently an agricultural field that will be turned into a neighborhood outdoor space. 

Federally Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic
North Range Behavioral Health has been awarded a federal grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration to become a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic. This designation allows North Range to expand community-based services for people who need mental health and substance use treatment. North Range joins three other Colorado mental health centers as leaders in the state. 

Daniels Fund Scholarship Recipients
Greeley-Evans School District 6 seniors Alexandria Joy Sherman-Sutton of Greeley Central High School and Yovahn Adrian Quinones of Greeley West High School have been awarded the prestigious Daniels Scholarship. Paid for through the Daniels Fund, a private foundation started by entrepreneur and cable television pioneer Bill Daniels, these scholarships cover four years of tuition and fees, room and board, books and miscellaneous educational expenses for scholars who attend any accredited nonprofit college or university in the United States. More than 2,000 students applied for Daniels Scholarships this year. 

pianoAll-Steinway School Designation
The University of Northern Colorado College of Performing and Visual Arts has been designated as an All-Steinway School after receiving 96 new Steinway & Sons pianos as part of a $1.26 million project to replace UNC’s old piano fleet. UNC is Colorado’s first publicly funded institution of higher education to receive the designation. Fewer than 200 institutions worldwide have been named All-Steinway schools.

$600,000 in State and Regional Grants 
Aims Community College and the Aims Foundation are the recipients of nearly $600,000 in grant funding. The grants support COSI scholarships created for first-generation and students with disabilities, the Student Emergency Fund which has been increasingly important due to COVID, fund skill development for academic advisors in the Pathway Advising program, support scholarships for students enrolled in the paramedic program, and federal funding to purchase equipment for student learning in career and technical education.

Buster Posey Award

University of Northern Colorado baseball junior Josh Glenn was recently named to the Buster Posey award watch list, which is given to the top Division I catcher, and junior softball player Dani Young received the Big Sky Player of the Week Award.

Clearway Community Solar Essay
University of Northern Colorado senior Emmy Scott has been awarded a $5,000 scholarship after taking first place in the Clearway Community Solar’s 2020 Essay Contest.  Emmy’s essay “Crisis! The Relationship between COVID-19 and Climate Change” looked at how the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has impacted climate-change efforts.
