With the City Council’s approval of the Certificates of Participation (COPs) to fund the new downtown Fire Station #1 and City Center Phase I, these projects are ready to roll.  Just in time as Greeley’s growth; our duplicative government administrative buildings; and construction of the hotel and conference center make these new facilities a necessity.

In a time when terrorists and mentally ill individuals attack innocent people around the world, we understand how critically important it is that we’re prepared for that possibility in Greeley.  Although we hope a situation like that never happens here, we know it’s possible—it can happen anywhere and we must do our best to be prepared.

One interesting and relatively new addition to our City offices and operations is the sight of so many high school interns.  Through a series of local grants, 85 high school students are enrolled in this year’s summer internship program

The November 2015 survey shows that community advocacy among residents is up a solid 8 percent.  That means literally thousands of people in Greeley are now more likely to say positive things about their city.

City government budgeting is always an interesting juggling act.  Here are some details about what has happened so far in 2016.

One way we continue to make progress supporting our mission is to improve our performance through comprehensive training opportunities for City employees.

The City’s downtown office buildings, including City Hall, are all abuzz about the new hotel and City Center projects.

The Northern Colorado economy is sending us signals of change.  And although it’s impossible to have a completely accurate crystal ball prediction the outlook is still positive as the economy continues to grow, just at a slower rate. 

641 employees responded to questions about their work environment, how they’re coached, supervised and recognized, the tools they’re given, coworker and team relationships, and a number of other factors.

Last year we launched an effort to get all Greeley City government employees aligned with our organization’s mission and values.  On October 30 of this year, we had the opportunity to see our mission and several of our core values displayed at the Union Colony Civic Center.

Local elections can be exciting! No really, I mean that. This is an opportunity to see our system of local government in action and participate in that system; in other words, have a voice in your community. This year, our City Council placed five items on the November ballot. Here’s a quick rundown of the ballot measures which include sales tax and City Charter questions.

Over the next few months our Culture, Parks, and Recreation Department staff will be collecting input for a new Parks, Trails and Open Space (PTOL) Master Plan.

To some of you, 2014 might seem like a distant memory. That’s not surprising. We’ve all been so busy the first few months of this year that time has really flown by! That doesn’t diminish what City staff did last year to improve Greeley’s image.

My series of articles recapping some of Greeley City government’s accomplishments and progress in 2014 continues. This month, I’ll focus on the City Council’s Economic Health and Development priority.

I started this series last month and I’ll continue over the next few months to focus my message on some of our 2014 accomplishments in each of the City Council’s top priority areas. Their 2014 priorities were Safety, Image, Economic Health & Development, and Infrastructure & Growth. And in fact they’re planning to keep those same priorities for 2015.

I know, I know, it’s the New Year and everyone is ready to start something fresh as we begin 2015. There’s no denying that this will be an exciting year, but before we get to that, I want to reflect on and celebrate what was accomplished in 2014.
