Irrigation Rebates
We recommend scheduling an irrigation assessment prior to making changes to your irrigation system. After the assessment, a customized report will be created for your property, and certain practices and products may be suggested to help you increase your water efficiency. Recommended products will be eligible for rebates and rebate amounts are based on a 50% reduction of retail price. You may need an irrigation professional’s expertise or miscellaneous fittings for retrofits, but the cost of these is not included in the rebate.
Recommended products often include:
- Smart controllers (ensures irrigation works in sync with weather and optimizes sprinkler run times)
- Pressure-reducing valves (reduce misting/water evaporation by regulating pressure)
- Rotary nozzles (avoid misting and applying water where it is needed)
Smart Controllers, Weather Sensors, and Accessories
Smart controllers and ET controllers ensure irrigation works in sync with weather and optimize sprinkler run times. Because these controllers can be more efficient than traditional, time-based irrigation controllers, they often reduce use by at least 10%, saving both money and water. Rebates are available for qualifying, contractor-grade smart controllers. We will pay 50% of the cost of the controller and all necessary accessories, up to a total rebated amount of $300. The City of Greeley provides rebates for contractor-grade ET-based (weather adjusting) controllers but does not provide rebates for retail-grade controllers (download). After testing many different controllers in the field, the following have shown particular success in Greeley’s climate and soil conditions:
Pressure-Reducing Valves and Sprinkler Bodies
Some irrigation systems apply water at a very high pressure. This causes misting -- a fine spray that appears as a fog, often with rainbows visible. Misting causes excessive evaporation and water drifting into other areas. Pressure-reducing valves and sprinkler bodies (heads) will reduce misting by regulating the pressure, making your system more efficient. A minimum of 6" heads is recommended in most retrofits as shorter heads are easily blocked by landscape materials.
Rotary Nozzles
Rotary nozzles operate by rotating streams of water over the landscape. The water streams are much more resistant to being blown away from winds, and because they must be installed on pressure-reducing heads, they reduce water loss due to misting as well. Rotary nozzles also apply water at a slower rate than other sprinkler types, allowing your landscape to better absorb the water being applied.
